Wes Miller Named New Men's Basketball Coach at Charlotte
Charlotte has appointed Wes Miller as its new men's basketball coach. He aims to build a championship culture with the 49ers.

Charlotte has announced the hiring of Wes Miller as its new men's basketball coach, with sources indicating that he has signed a five-year contract.
Miller brings 15 seasons of head coaching experience from Cincinnati and UNC Greensboro, where he led teams to two NCAA tournament appearances.
Kevin White, the athletic director, praised Miller's leadership qualities and his strong connections within North Carolina basketball. "His passion, competitive energy, and vision for creating a championship culture were key factors in our decision," White stated.
Miller was dismissed from Cincinnati earlier this month after failing to qualify for the NCAA tournament during his five-year tenure. Although he achieved 20 wins in both the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, he finished with a 9-9 record in Big 12 play this year.
Before his time at Cincinnati, Miller served as head coach at UNC Greensboro for a decade, accumulating a record of 185-135. He was recognized as one of the top mid-major coaches, achieving a remarkable 125-43 record in his last five seasons there, along with three Southern Conference regular-season titles and two NCAA tournament berths.
This hiring marks an important move for first-year athletic director White, who took the position in late February. Miller's reputation in the region enhances the team's prospects moving forward.
Miller is the son of Kenneth D. Miller, honored with a facility named after him at Wake Forest. He began his college basketball career at James Madison before transferring to North Carolina, where he played under Roy Williams and won a national championship in 2005.
Miller succeeds Aaron Fearne, who was let go after three seasons. Fearne had a record of 19-12 in his first season but struggled in subsequent years, finishing with a 3-15 conference record last season and facing difficulties this season.
